Login-Logoff virus

Today I was asked to recover a computer which couldn't log-in to Windows XP. It always logged off automatically right after logging in. This is the third time I've encountered this virus. I am so sick of this symptom. In the last two times, I had to re-install the OS. This time I felt it was so hard and time-consuming to do this. Trying to search on the Internet, I found some articles guiding how to resolve this issue.

The cause is that the computer registry is changed in the path of the file userinit.exe. So the solution is changing the path of the file in the registry back to the correct location. However the problem is how to access computer registry while I cannot log in to Windows. I looked for any software in Hiren CD but it didn't help. Fortunately I remembered a CD named WinPE something. I tried the CD and the result was so perfect. I edited the registry by running OS on the CD. The computer worked again and I could run anti virus software to clean the the system. From now on I no longer worry of this virus.
